Putting People Back into Sustainability

Bridget | April 5, 2019

Center For Safety and Health Sustainability

This week has not been an average one in our Hundred Acre world. After training on Monday Bridget got on a train and headed for Paris.

On Wednesday the Center for Safety and Health Sustainability, CSHS’s, 4th Human Capital workshop was held at L’Oreal’s headquarters in Paris. Bridget attended as part of the CSSE’s Sustainability Committee.

The day was filled with presentations, discussions and workshops. Speakers from Google, Nike, BNP Paribas, CIPD, GRI and a whole host of others spoke alongside CSSE, ASSP and IOSH about their perspectives of the topic.

From Bridget, “I am so thrilled I was able to attend this event. It has been amazing to be here. Having been a part of the CSSE committee since it was formed, the conversation today has been on a different level to anything I have been part of before.

Human capital is all about people but it’s not just about employees. It’s anyone a company has responsibility for. Think the gig economy and contractors. There were stories and evidence here that demonstrated that.

That also means this is about customers. A business has two assets Their people and their reputation. Both are critical to a business and without nurturing have the potential to be lost. This is where customers are an enormous influence and businesses need to remember that.”

At the end of the workshop CSSE delivered a webinar to their members. Some very key people joined for a brief update of what had been learned through the day. Kathy Seabrook, Chair of the CSHS, Malc Staves, Corporate Health and Safety Director L’Oreal Operations, Richard Jones, Head of Policy, IOSH, along with fellow CSSE members Trevor Johnson, President and Peter Sturm, committee chair.

You can listen to a recording of the webinar here.

Next for Bridget is to take stock of everything she heard and to look forward to where this conversation goes next. Paris has been amazing – to learn, to reconnect with safety friends from across the globe and to make new connections. All while focusing on the most important resource in our world – people.
